Softwood Gates

Our softwood gates are made from responsibly sourced Scandinavian Redwood. The timber we choose is of the highest quality - known in the joinery trade as ‘unsorted timber’, and provides unrivalled strength and durability.
The pressure treatment given to all our softwood gates provides the timber with a natural looking green hue which, over time, fades to a soft silver tint. We do however still recommend a good quality stain treatment which protects the timber from wind, rain, and sun damage.
Scandinavian Redwood gates are a fantastic, cost effective way to enhance your garden or property entrance. All designs can be created in softwood and can include automation if required. Please contact us for more details or to book a quote.

Hardwood Gates

At Crocketts Gates we use two types of hardwood for our bespoke hardwood gates; Oak and Iroko. Both these hardwoods are different in appearance so it’s important to know the difference between the two.

Iroko is an African hardwood, very popular for outdoor use including boat building, as it is strong, durable, which require regular oiling maintain the golden hue. It is because of this that we believe it’s the best type of wood for gates. We treat all our Iroko gates with a base coat of Teak Oil with UV filters, giving a beautiful golden brown colour – a stunning and unique look for any garden or entrance gate.
We are proud to say that all of our Oak gates are created using only the finest first grade, European, air-dried Oak. The Oak will have naturally seasoned for at least four years, meaning each gate has its own natural look, unless treated. Over time, your Oak gate will produce a silver hue, and gradually settle, resulting in the classic appearance of cracks – one of the most sought-after traits of Oak wood.
Widely regarded as the ‘king of timber’, Oak has been used for centuries by craftsmen to create structures which are guaranteed to stand the test of time. We supply our Oak with an Osmo finish; however we are happy to treat with Tung Oil if requested.
